As well as the HIV work there are training and literacy programmes for young and older people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Next visit was to a settlement, on the perimeter of the airport. There was a striking difference between the two. The area was incredibly dry and dusty but the houses had space and there was a good community feel. If you ignore the broken, rusty cars and see the people with their smiling faces you can see some happiness in severe poverty.<\/p>\n<p><em>Christ the King School<\/em> was a wonderful place. Set at the top of a hill we met the school children, standing waiting for us in 38C sunshine! We had gifts to give and children sang their songs, Paul played <em>Happy Birthday <\/em>to them all on the trumpet.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_192\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-192\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithgoeswalkabout.org\/papuanewguineapilgrimage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/trumpetImage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-192 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.faithgoeswalkabout.org\/papuanewguineapilgrimage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/trumpetImage-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Trumpet Image\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.faithgoeswalkabout.org\/papuanewguineapilgrimage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/trumpetImage-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.faithgoeswalkabout.org\/papuanewguineapilgrimage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/trumpetImage.jpg 546w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trumpeter and audience!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A tour of the classrooms and the large and cool chapel were brilliant. The teachers are largely voluntary, the classrooms varied from sheds to a container with windows, provided by Sue Ramsden. It was surprisingly cool.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We met some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Melanesian_Brotherhood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Melanesian Brothers<\/a> and talked with the Chair of the Governors.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_386\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-386\" style=\"width: 249px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithgoeswalkabout.org\/papuanewguineapilgrimage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/5u-Outside-Parliament-HOuse1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-386\" src=\"http:\/\/www.faithgoeswalkabout.org\/papuanewguineapilgrimage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/5u-Outside-Parliament-HOuse1-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Outside Parliament House image\" width=\"249\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.faithgoeswalkabout.org\/papuanewguineapilgrimage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/5u-Outside-Parliament-HOuse1-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.faithgoeswalkabout.org\/papuanewguineapilgrimage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/5u-Outside-Parliament-HOuse1-1024x765.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 249px) 100vw, 249px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-386\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Outside Parliament House<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next visit was to the War Memorial Graves kept by the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Commonwealth_War_Graves_Commission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Commonwealth War Graves Commission<\/a> in beautiful grounds and incredible to see the headstones for nearly 4000 Australians, some Papuan&#8217;s and some British soldiers, airforce personnel and sailors.
